HELPFUL HINTS: (For obtaining your meds)

1. BRAND NAMES & GENERIC NAMES:

Although every Brand Name product has a Generic Name, not all Generic name products are available on the market. Initially, Brand Name products are protected by a patent for a number of years. Products cannot be on the Generic market until their Patents have expired.

2. HAVE YOUR DOCTOR ORDER STRONGER STRENGTHS:

Many Brand Name and Generic products are available in several strengths. It possibly could save you money $ to have the doctor prescribe a stronger strength, and then take a portion of a tablet to equal your dosage.

Example = You take DRUG X 10mg……so get DRUG X in 20mg…and then take ½ tablet to equal your 10mg dose.

3. PHARMACY ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS (PAP):

Most Brand Name drugs are available for FREE thru Pharmacy Assistance Programs. There is a very good website called WWW.PATIENTASSISTANCE.COM which helps guide you thru the procedure of how to apply for FREE 90 day supply of your Brand Name Drug. Subsequently, additional 90 day supplies can be obtained by following the renewal procedure.

4. MAIL ORDER:

Although not as convenient, Mail Order can be helpful in several ways. Most Mail Order prescriptions can be for 90 days and even 180 day supply. By purchasing in these larger supplies, you can save time and MONEY $$ on your Rx’s.

5. BRAND NAMES IN PRODUCT CATEGORIES:

Although your Brand Name medication may not be available by Generic, there may be Generic products that are available in the same category.

For example: Lipitor and Crestar are 2 very fine products for high cholesterol. However, neither is available by Generic at this time.

However, both of these medications are in a category of drugs called Statins, and there are several Statins that are available with Generic. Namely:

Mevacor is available as Lovastatin
Zocor is available as Simvastatin

Consult your doctor to inquire about medications in the same category that might be available for you.
